  1. Approval of Minutes – August 17, 2011.:  motion made to approve minutes
  1. Webster Park Residential Historic District as a City-designated Historic District:   

Doug Nissing, Chair of Webster Park Association, spoke to HPC about their decision to move forward with local historic designation.

·          Mr. Nissing spoke that the presence of Mike Harney, Greg Falk, and Todd Meyer at the annual association meeting in June 2011 was a critical factor in the decision process.  Their presentation regarding the benefits and pitfalls of local historic designation alleviated concerns and misunderstandings of Webster Park residents and also provided them with a more comprehensive understanding about the meaning of such designation.

·         Mr. Nissing provided the HPC with a copy of “Webster Park… A Residential Historic District”  which included various documents used or collected during for their application for the 2008 National Register.

·         Mr. Nissing stated that Mike Harney had already checked to make sure Webster Park documents were in compliance with the city.

 

·         Motion made to move forward with local designation process

  1. Annual PowerPoint Presentation:    Todd Meyer provided HPC with hard copy of draft of Power Point presentation and HPC worked with T. Meyer to edit into final form to be given at next city council meeting.

Annual Strategies for Year 1

  1.  Annual Power Point Presentation for the City Council due in October, 2011.  Briefly explain the accomplishment of 2011 and goals for 2012.:  T. Meyer will have for October city council meeting
  2. Nominate at least two historic preservation projects of the Awards of Excellence.

Awards of Excellence Committee has changed awards ceremony time line to occur every two years rather than annually.  Therefore, there is no ceremony/awards this year.  Current nominees will remain as nominees for the next awards ceremony.

  1. Complete the list of Historic Properties and transmit it to the City Council and City Attorney via a transmittal letter from the HPC Chairman.   
  2. Work with other boards and commissions in the City to enhance awareness of the HPC’s missions and efforts.  Efforts would work in tandem with the efforts to promote the City and encourage economic development.  Ongoing.
  3. Define entrances to the various Historic Districts. - Agree upon signs and locations of the signs for each district. :  D. Alexander volunteered to bring options to September meeting.  Alexander was absent at September meeting.  Topic tabled until October.
  4. Identify topics for an educational brochure.
