Applying
To apply for a Business License, pick up an application packet, available at the Customer Service Counter in City Hall.  It contains a declaration statement of gross receipts of the previous year for established businesses or estimated gross receipts expected for new businesses. 
After completing the application, return it to Customer Service with the license fee(s).  Various departments receive copies of the application for approval including the Fire Department and the Planning Department.  A Code Enforcement inspection is required at a cost of $65.  Once the application is approved, the license is mailed to the new business. 

Home Occupation Licenses

Applicants for a Home Occupation License file a regular Business License application.  A Code Enforcement inspection is required of the exterior only to assure that no obvious violations exist; however, the inspection fee is waived.  The license fee is calculated at the same rate as other business license fees as stated above.  As with businesses located in commercial buildings, licenses must be renewed annually. 

Under a home occupation, you may not store stock in-trade nor have non-resident, non-family employees at the dwelling.  Often, it is the coming and going of employees who park their vehicles in the street that is disruptive to the neighborhood. The business may be advertised in newspapers, fliers, the Yellow Pages, etc., however, no signs may be placed on or near the property.
